100 Meter Dash
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin held off a strong run by Magnolia's Brendan Kacor to take the win in 11.07 to Kacor's 11.16. Point Pleasant's Marquez Griffin edged Tyler Consolidated's Alex Doak by 0.04 for 3rd. Those four were all 11.41 or better. No one else was under 11.60. Franklin also scored a 10.95 in the trials which is good enough to be Tied for the 5th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance.

200 Meter Dash
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin controlled the race and won by nearly 0.3 seconds with his 22.36. Magnolia scored a 2-3 finish with Stephen Rogalski and Brendan Kacor in an important event for the team race. Franklin and Rogalski were the only ones under 23 seconds. As in the 100, Franklin ran a 22.17 in the trials which is good enough to be the 8th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance.

400 Meter Dash
In one of the more impressive performances of the weekend, Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin took down a State Meet Record that had stood since 1984 with his 48.43 clocking. It wasn't an easy win, though, as Magnolia's Stephen Rogalski ran a 49.16. Franklin's time is the 7th Best All-Time State Meet Performance Regardless of Class and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Rogalski's time is the 6th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Hill's Jovarre Brown was the only other runner to go under 51. 4th through 6th were separated by just 0.11.

800 Meter Run
Keyser's Taven Rohrbaugh pretty much led from start to finish in taking the win by nearly two seconds in 1:57.51. Ritchie's Brian Britton joined Rohrbaugh under 2:00 with his 1:59.39. Two others made it in under 2:03.

1600 Meter Run
Sherman's Brandon Harless led the field through 2 laps in 2:16. Braxton's Russell Nuckles was close behind. They were trailed by Scott's Will Shaffer, Berkeley Springs' Jake Wise, and Oak Hill's Scotty Treadway. After 3 laps, it was still Harless and Nuckles in front with Shaffer close behind. On the final lap, Nuckles made a move and generated a gap on Harless. But Harless was able to put together one last push for the finish and he just nipped Nuckles at the line 4:31.35 to 4:31.37. Shaffer held off the late push of Wise as both ran under 4:34. Treadway was the only other one to make it in under 4:40.

3200 Meter Run
Magnolia's Alec Hinerman took the first lap pretty quickly, coming through in 68, two seconds ahead of everyone else. At the end of the 2nd lap, Scott's Will Shaffer had moved to the front with Hinerman in 2nd and Wayne's Forrest Reed in 3rd. The trio came through in 2:25 with Philip Barbour's Matthew King and Oak Hill's Scotty Treadway close behind in 2:26. At the end of 3 laps, Shaffer had started to take control. He came through in 3:39 and was in the lead by 2 seconds over Westside's Cameron Davis and Reed, who came through in 3:41. King and Treadway were joined by Scott's Ryan Honeycutt at 3:42. At the 1600 meter mark, Shaffer had extended his lead to 3 seconds over Davis, 4:54 to 4:57. Two seconds after Davis was a large pack at 4:59-5:01. King, Honeycutt, Treadway, Reed, Hinerman, Magnolia's Bill Feeney and Ritchie's Johnny Hogue were there. At the end of 5 laps, Shaffer's lead was up to 7 seconds, coming through in 6:07. Davis remained in 3rd, but Treadway was no within a second. King and Honeycutt were another 2 seconds back in 6:17. Hinerman had moved to the front of the next pack, with Reed, Feeney, and Hogue hanging on. At the end of lap 6, Shaffer had extended his lead to 11 seconds, coming through in 7:23. Treadway was slightly in front of Davis for 2nd. King was another 3 seconds behind in 7:37 with Honeycutt was another second behind, and Hinerman was another second behind him. Lap 7 saw Shaffer extend the lead to 18 seconds. He came through in 8:38. King had made a move to join Treadway and Davis in the battle for 2nd. King and Treadway crossed in 8:56 and Davis in 8:57. Hinerman and Honeycutt were a couple seconds back. At the finish, it was all Shaffer, as he cruised in for the 15 second win in 9:50.25. King just held off the final surge of Treadway for second. Hinerman used a strong final lap to move into 4th. Davis held onto 5th, and Honeycutt held on for 6th. Only Shaffer went under 10:00. Only four made it in under 10:10.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Oak Hill's James Miller took the event by 0.15 over Greenbrier West's Dylan Trout as the pair was nearly a full second ahead of everyone else. 3rd through 5th was decided by just 0.02.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Greenbrier West's Dylan Trout took the win in a race that saw the top six all separated by just 0.81 seconds with all running between 42.05 and 42.86. Keyser's Matthew Shillingburg had the event in hand before tumbling over the final hurdle. He still managed to get up and finish 6th in the event.

4x100 Meter Relay
Magnolia dominated the field with a stellar 43.79 to win by over 1.3 seconds. Their time is the 6th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Point Pleasant edged Bluefield by 0.06 for 2nd with Lincoln just another 0.07 back.

4x200 Meter Relay
Magnolia took the win here as well as it was a two-team race. Magnolia ran a 1:32.29 to win by 0.73 over Point Pleasant's 1:33.02. Lincoln and Keyser just made it in under 1:35.

4x400 Meter Relay
Ritchie took the lead during the 3rd leg of Clint Hardman and received a 51.1 anchor leg from Cody Masters to seal win by over 2 seconds over Point Pleasant. Point Pleasant got a strong anchor leg from Zach Canterbury but it wasn't enought to catch Ritchie. Keyser edged Magnolia for 3rd by 0.15. Weir and Philip Barbour also ran under 3:36.

4x800 Meter Relay
Ritchie took the early lead on a 2:03 opening leg from Clint Hardman. They held the lead until Keyser took it during a 2:05 3rd leg from Canton Whisner. Taven Rohrbaugh sealed the win with a sub-2:00 anchor leg. Ritchie easily held onto the 2nd spot. Weir got by Magnolia and Oak Hill for 3rd. The top 5 were under 8:33. No one else was under 8:40.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Greenbrier West ended Keyser's stranglehold on the Shuttle Hurdle title, squeezing past Keyser by just over half a second. Keyser had won the event four years in a row. Greenbrier West and Keyser were the only teams to go under 60 seconds. Only one other team went under 62.

High Jump
Keyser's Peyton Hartman repeated as champion, this time with a leap of 6'7, which stands as the 7th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. No one else cleared heigher than 6'0.

Pole Vault
Ritchie's Cody Masters repeated as champion, matching last year's vault of 13'7. That was enough to give him the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Tyler Consolidated's Hunter Lemasters and Webster's Chad Brinson cleared 12'6 to take 2nd and 3rd, respectively. All six placers cleared at least 11'6.

Long Jump
Liberty Harrison's Brandon Franklin also repeated as champion in the Long Jump. His leap of 21'9 won the event by over a foot. No one else went past 20'5. 2nd through 6th were separated by just 8 inches.

Shot Put
Ritchie's Mark Britton and Magnolia's Matthew Riggs both surpassed 50'0 with Britton's 52'2.75 outdistancing Riggs' 51'0. They were over 3 feet ahead of the rest. Lincon's Steven Bates topped 47'0 in getting 3rd.

Discus
Ritchie's Mark Britton repeated as champion, destroying the field in the process. His 177'9 toss was over 31'0 futher than anyone else and is a new State Meet Record. The throw stands as the 2nd Best All-Time State Meet Performance Regardless of Class and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Glen's Ethan Delekta and Point Pleasant's Kenneth Livingston each surpassed 140'0 in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

The final score of 95 of 108 means that 79.6% of the people picked to place did indeed place. That may be my highest score ever. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
